BlueConic

BlueConic is a marketer-run CDP with real-time profiles, no-code segments, on-site personalization, 150+ native connectors and AI decisioning.

Best for: Marketer-led B2C teams managing real-time segments, lifecycles and on-site personalization without SQL.

Editor’s note: This BlueConic review is based on my hands-on test of the BlueConic platform in October 2026. I weighed pricing and value, setup, identity resolution, segmentation and on-site personalization, warehouse connections, AI features and security.

Quick verdict: I recommend BlueConic for B2C marketing teams that want to build segments, lifecycles and on-site personalization themselves on one real-time profile, without SQL. The trade-off is quote-only pricing and no free trial, while the Blueshift messaging layer acquired in June 2026 still has no announced combined packaging.

In this BlueConic review, I’ll take a closer look at pricing, setup and AI decisioning to answer a concrete buying question: does the Customer Growth Engine fit your marketer-led team better than Twilio Segment or Tealium?

Key Takeaways

  • Marketer-first CDP: Build segments, lifecycles and Dialogues in the UI; segment membership updates in real time for known and anonymous visitors.
  • 150+ native connectors: Warehouse options include Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks Delta Sharing, with different synchronization methods and schedules.
  • Quote-only pricing: BlueConic publishes no prices or tiers and offers no free trial; pricing requires sales contact and a demo.
  • Messaging added: Cross-Channel Engagement, powered by Blueshift, supports email, SMS, push and in-app messaging; combined packaging remains unannounced.
  • Identity limits: Merge rules are not retroactive, and each profile caps at 1,000 merges before duplicates can appear and Support must reset the count.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 150+ native connectors, including Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks
  • No-code segments that update in real time for known and anonymous visitors
  • On-site Dialogues with A/B variations and 1-minute to 30-day conversion windows
  • AI Workbench runs Python notebooks with prebuilt CLV, churn and RFM models
  • Native email, SMS, push and in-app messaging via Blueshift since June 2026

Cons

  • No published prices, plans or free trial; every deal is quote-only
  • Merge rules are not retroactive and cap at 1,000 merges per profile
  • First connection runs can take many hours, and connections run one at a time
  • No published uptime SLA, ISO 27001 or HIPAA statement
  • No announced packaging or migration path for the Blueshift messaging layer

BlueConic Pricing: How Much Does It Cost?

BlueConic publishes no prices or plan tiers and offers no free trial; pricing goes through a sales form and a 30-minute demo. A written proposal is your only basis for judging its subscription cost.

No contract price appears on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Marketplace. BlueConic has been on Databricks Marketplace since March 24, 2026, also with no price shown.

  • Customer Data Platform: for unified real-time profiles and marketer-built segments, with lifecycles, Dialogues and 150+ connectors supporting activation.
  • Interactive Experiences (Experiences by Jebbit): for quizzes, surveys and lookbooks that collect zero-party data. BlueConic acquired Jebbit on July 10, 2024.
  • Agent Studio: for the AI decisioning layer introduced in June 2026.
  • Cross-Channel Engagement, powered by Blueshift: for email and SMS, plus push and in-app messaging.
  • AI Workbench: for Python notebooks, including prebuilt churn and customer-lifetime-value models whose scores feed profile-based segmentation.
  • Growth Plays: for ten prebuilt campaign motions tied to revenue outcomes, including abandoned-cart recovery and customer retention.

BlueConic does not publish which modules are bundled or what drives the quote. Request separate module line items and implementation services, with the functionality required at launch distinguished from later additions.

Platform Cheapest published paid entry Free option Pricing model
Twilio Segment Team from $120/month, 10,000 MTUs Free $0 up to 1,000 MTUs; 14-day Team trial Entry plans specify MTU allowances
RudderStack Growth $265/month, 1M to 25M events Free 250K events/month Entry plans specify event allowances
Tealium Data Cloud Activation $1,000/month billed annually No free option Other tiers quote-only
Hightouch Composable CDP by demo Basic Reverse ETL, 2 active syncs CDP quote through a demo
BlueConic Quote only No free trial Quote drivers not published

mParticle and Uniphore’s CDP Agent are quote-only, Adobe Real-Time CDP quotes per 1,000 profiles, and Bloomreach has no public rate card.

Is BlueConic Good Value for Money?

  • Good fit: A B2C brand buying a CDP, on-site personalization and a quiz tool separately. BlueConic offers those capabilities under one vendor; judge consolidation savings against an itemized proposal.
  • Less convincing fit: Developer-led event routing. RudderStack Free includes 250K events/month, while Segment Team starts at $120/month with 10,000 MTUs. BlueConic provides no public entry-price benchmark.
  • Budget priority: Ask sales to itemize Agent Studio, Jebbit and Blueshift alongside the CDP core. Include implementation scope and any existing platform contracts the purchase is intended to replace.

Reviewer’s Notes: Ask for the CDP core first, and add Blueshift only if it replaces an existing email or SMS platform contract. Require the replacement scope and module price in the proposal; combined packaging and migration paths remain unannounced.

My Experience With BlueConic

I picked the website channel, installed BlueConic’s Chrome extension and ran the setup wizard. Website, mobile app and email were the available channel types; I followed the website path through to the last-24-hours validation segment.

Setting Up the Channel and Tag

I confirmed the channel address, then reviewed the hostname choice. BlueConic recommended a first-party custom hostname, while the standard *.blueconic.net option needed no DNS change.

I copied the two-line JavaScript tag into the head of every page, then built a segment of visitors from the last 24 hours for validation.

I planned the identifier properties alongside tag setup because merge rules were not retroactive. Applying a new rule to existing profiles required a Support-run maintenance connection.

Capturing Behavior With Listeners

I checked the global Listener first: it was on by default and could not be modified. I prepared target profile properties with write access before configuring the behavior, form, funnel, interest and custom scoring Listeners, which were off by default.

I reviewed property types before assigning values because populated types could not change, except from text to email. The available types and limits were:

  • Text: Up to 65,000 characters.
  • Email: For email values.
  • Number: Maximum 2,147,483,647.
  • Decimal: Four decimal places.
  • Currency: For monetary values.
  • Date-time: For dates and times.
  • Group ID: For group identifiers.

I also checked the 64KB default maximum property value size. For purchase values and timestamps, I settled the property type before connecting a Listener to it.

Configuring Identity Resolution

I created a profile property, selected Unique identifier and configured the merge rule. Separate rules combined with OR; sub-rules combined with AND.

I reviewed the IP-check options of none, regular and strict. Matching was case-insensitive; the newer profile stayed active, while the older became inactive with a “Replaced by” link and was excluded from segmentation and exports.

I reviewed the per-property merge strategies:

  • Keep both values, the default.
  • Keep the current profile’s value.
  • Sum values.
  • Keep the highest or lowest.
  • Keep the most recently updated.
  • Keep the first stored value.

I checked merge eligibility: profiles needed the same domain group and permission level 2. Each profile also capped at 1,000 merges, after which duplicates could appear until Support reset the count.

Reviewer’s Notes: Plan identifiers and property types before the tag goes live. Populated types lock, and new merge rules do not backfill existing profiles without Support involvement. Include that maintenance connection in your identity-resolution rollout.

Segments, Lifecycles and On-Site Dialogues

BlueConic connects real-time segments to on-site Dialogues, letting your marketing team define an audience and control its interactions in the same platform. RudderStack lacks marketer-facing segmentation and on-site personalization, making BlueConic the stronger fit for that combined job.

Real-Time Segments

BlueConic’s segments require no code, but email-list imports need a property-based workaround:

  • Live membership: Segments update in real time for known and anonymous visitors.
  • Behavioral starting points: Recency, frequency, intensity and momentum segments are created automatically.
  • Property limits: A segment supports up to 1,000 values per property.
  • Suppression workflow: Import a flag property, such as suppressed, by CSV over SFTP, then segment on that flag. You cannot upload an email list directly into a segment.

Create the suppression property alongside your identifiers. Use that property in the segment definition instead of planning a campaign around a direct email-list upload.

Lifecycles

Lifecycles define entry criteria, stages and completion criteria using:

  • Profile properties.
  • Group properties.
  • Segments.
  • Consent objectives.

A profile meeting several stages lands in the highest-numbered stage. Check overlapping conditions when assigning stage numbers, especially when a later stage has broader criteria than an earlier one.

Dialogues

Dialogues deliver interactions on website and mobile channels:

  • Formats: Dynamic content, banners, lightboxes and forms.
  • Targeting: Segments, objectives, groups or profile properties.
  • Delivery controls: Date and time rules, plus priority.
  • Testing: Multiple A/B variations, with conversion windows from 1 minute to 30 days.

For a segment-targeted banner, configure audience eligibility separately from the Dialogue’s schedule and priority. Set the conversion window to match the action the A/B test measures.

Dialogues have no built-in version history. Change logs show who and when, not what changed; keep an external record of campaign edits when you need to reconstruct a previous version.

Best for: Marketing teams owning audience selection and on-site personalization. Skip if: Your requirement stops at event routing; start with RudderStack or Twilio Segment.

Connections and the Composable Warehouse Setup

BlueConic has 150+ native connectors, but connections run sequentially and a new goal’s first run can take many hours. Connector availability alone does not establish how quickly a warehouse update reaches a campaign.

Warehouse Direction How it connects Schedule
Snowflake Import and export Amazon S3 server or Google Cloud Storage bucket; Secure Data Sharing also available Scheduled batch import/export; real-time import
BigQuery Enrich profiles; export profiles and timeline events BigQuery tables; Pub/Sub for real time Batch plus real time through Pub/Sub
Databricks Enrich profiles, timeline events and groups; export Delta Sharing Up to 6 runs a day

Databricks Delta Sharing moves customer tables and model outputs into BlueConic’s decisioning layer, including predictions and propensity scores. Its six-runs-a-day limit matters when campaign eligibility depends on a newly calculated warehouse score.

  • Sequential execution: Connections run one after another; overlapping schedules queue.
  • Manual execution: Only one Run Now job executes at a time.
  • Configuration changes: Changing a connection triggers a full import or export.
  • Initial processing: A new goal processes every eligible profile on its first run, which can take many hours.
  • Deletion: Deleted connections cannot be restored.

Ask for a demonstration of the initial load and a configuration change using your proposed connection design. Include queued jobs in the discussion: a full run can postpone an overlapping scheduled connection.

BlueConic retired REST API v1 on July 1, 2024; v2 is current. Bulk profile and group endpoints cap at 1,000 entries per request, and BlueConic publishes no numeric v2 rate limit.

BlueConic offers composable or fully managed deployment. In composable mode, the CDP connects to your data platform instead of storing that data; Cassandra and SOLR still power real-time personalization and segmentation.

Snowflake Secure Data Sharing arrived in May 2025, followed by Databricks. Amazon Redshift, Google Cloud and Azure remain later rollout items; the existing BigQuery connector is separate from that composable roadmap.

The Snowflake roadmap includes exporting profiles from BlueConic-managed Snowflake into your account, then using Snowflake as primary profile storage. Choose deployment around the current storage model, not that planned endpoint.

Uniphore’s CDP Agent offers zero-copy composability. Hightouch offers free Basic Reverse ETL with two active syncs and a Composable CDP by demo; include both when warehouse-centered activation drives your purchase.

AI Workbench, Agent Studio and the MCP Server

AI Workbench

BlueConic’s AI Workbench runs Python Jupyter notebooks on the full database. Its prebuilt notebooks include:

  • Advanced A/B Testing.
  • Propensity to Churn.
  • Customer Lifetime Value.
  • Recency/Frequency/Momentum.

Custom notebooks support additional models, with native ONNX model storage. Runs can be scheduled with email notifications, and compute comes from a shared resource pool.

Churn, CLV and RFM notebooks write scores back to profiles for segmentation. Assign custom Python work to a technical owner; the no-code audience builder does not remove notebook maintenance.

Since June 2025, these packages require explicit pip installation:

  • pandas.
  • numpy.
  • matplotlib.
  • seaborn.
  • sklearn.

Include package installation in notebook handover. A shared compute pool and scheduled execution also belong in planning for recurring profile-score updates.

Agent Studio and Growth Plays

Agent Studio arrived in June 2026 as BlueConic’s AI decisioning layer. Its ten prebuilt Growth Plays connect campaign goals to activation:

  • First Purchase Conversion.
  • Abandoned Cart Recovery.
  • Dormant Customer Reactivation.
  • Churn Prevention.
  • Customer Retention.
  • Loyalty Progression.
  • Replenishment.
  • AOV Expansion.
  • CLV Growth.
  • Lookalike Audience Acquisition.

Choose one Growth Play for the demo and trace its input properties through to the intended action. For a warehouse-fed play, include the connection cadence and identity rules in that walkthrough.

The MCP Server and Blueshift

The public MCP Server and AI Agent Connection were announced on November 22, 2025. They give AI agents policy-controlled access to live data in BlueConic or a cloud warehouse.

Blueshift adds owned-channel execution through Cross-Channel Engagement:

  • Email.
  • SMS.
  • Push.
  • In-app messaging.

The acquisition was announced in June 2026, but combined packaging and migration paths remain unannounced. Buy Agent Studio and Cross-Channel Engagement against a defined campaign scope; the acquisition does not establish what your contract includes.

Security and Compliance

BlueConic is SOC 2 Type 2 certified for Security, Availability and Confidentiality. Its security controls include:

  • Report access: Request the SOC 2 report through the account team.
  • Privacy: TRUSTe privacy seals.
  • Hosting: AWS across multiple availability zones.
  • Encryption: TLS 1.2/1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest, including backups.
  • Service visibility: System status at status.blueconic.com.

The trust center does not list:

  • An uptime SLA.
  • ISO 27001.
  • A HIPAA statement.
  • Specific hosting regions.
  • A sub-processor list.

BlueConic also provides no EU data-residency statement. Request contractual hosting locations and availability commitments during procurement, along with the sub-processor list and any required compliance terms.

For healthcare or residency-sensitive buying, Twilio Segment offers HIPAA eligibility and an EU/US regional option on custom-priced tiers. Put those requirements in both vendors’ proposals.

BlueConic publishes no retention period for profile data; only Pageview events have a stated retention period.

How Does BlueConic Compare to Competitors?

BlueConic publishes no entry price, while Twilio Segment, RudderStack and Tealium provide paid starting points.

  • Twilio Segment: Wins for a published entry budget: Free costs $0 up to 1,000 MTUs, and Team starts at $120/month with 10,000 MTUs. BlueConic offers neither a public price nor a free trial.
  • Tealium: Wins for connector breadth, with 300+ connectors versus BlueConic’s 150+. Data Cloud Activation costs $1,000/month billed annually; other tiers are quote-only. BlueConic requires a quote for every purchase.
  • mParticle: Wins for ad and acquisition-focused enterprise CDP needs, with 350+ integrations and quote-only pricing. Now part of Rokt, it merits a connector-specific comparison against BlueConic’s 150+ connectors; request the connections your launch actually needs.
  • Hightouch: Wins for starting reverse ETL without a subscription charge: Basic Reverse ETL includes 2 active syncs. Composable CDP requires a demo; BlueConic has no free trial and offers managed or composable deployment.
  • RudderStack: Wins for a published event-volume budget: Free includes 250K events/month, and Growth costs $265/month for 1M to 25M events. BlueConic adds marketer-facing segmentation and on-site personalization, which RudderStack lacks.
  • ActionIQ: Wins for zero-copy composability as Uniphore’s CDP Agent, with quote-only pricing. BlueConic offers composable deployment, but Snowflake as primary profile storage remains a roadmap item, alongside its current Cassandra and SOLR layer.
  • Treasure Data: Wins for very large enterprise data volumes under its current name, Treasure AI. Pricing is quote-only, like BlueConic; request matching activation scope so the proposals answer the same buying requirement.
  • Adobe Real-Time CDP: Wins for an explicit profile-based billing unit: pricing is per 1,000 profiles by quote. BlueConic does not publish its quote drivers, so request a written explanation of what changes its contract cost.

I favor BlueConic when marketer-owned segments and Dialogues define the purchase. For entry-budget screening, Segment and RudderStack give you published allowances immediately.

Tool Best for Entry price
BlueConic Marketer-run profiles and on-site Dialogues Quote only
Twilio Segment Published MTU allowances Free $0; Team from $120/month
Tealium Connector breadth $1,000/month billed annually
Hightouch Starting with reverse ETL Free Basic Reverse ETL; CDP by demo
RudderStack Published event-volume allowances Free; Growth $265/month

How I Reviewed BlueConic

I evaluated BlueConic from website-tag setup through profile-based activation. My setup walkthrough covered the channel address and hostname, then the validation segment, Listener prerequisites and property typing.

I examined identity resolution, including non-retroactive rules and the 1,000-merge cap. For marketing workflows, I evaluated segment membership, lifecycle stage precedence and Dialogue targeting, including the absence of built-in version history.

I compared warehouse schedules with connection queueing and full-run behavior. My AI evaluation covered AI Workbench’s Python requirements and profile-score writeback, alongside Agent Studio’s Growth Plays.

I reviewed SOC 2 Type 2 scope and unpublished contractual commitments. For value, I compared BlueConic’s sales-led purchase process with rival prices and allowances, including Segment’s Team trial and Hightouch’s free reverse ETL entry.

Prices current as of October 2026.

Should You Choose BlueConic as Your CDP?

Yes, for marketer-led B2C teams that need real-time profiles feeding segmentation, lifecycles and on-site personalization. BlueConic also brings Jebbit interactive experiences and Blueshift owned-channel messaging under one vendor, though combined packaging remains unannounced.

For event routing alone, start with RudderStack or Twilio Segment. For warehouse-centered activation, include Hightouch and Uniphore’s CDP Agent in your shortlist; BlueConic’s primary Snowflake profile-storage option remains on the roadmap.

The buying trade-off is quote-only pricing with no trial, plus unresolved Blueshift packaging. Non-retroactive merges and queued connection runs also create concrete planning requirements: assign ownership for identifier design and schedule the initial full loads.

My recommendation is to buy the CDP core for a defined activation job. Add Agent Studio or Cross-Channel Engagement only when the proposal identifies the campaign scope and commercial terms.

Book BlueConic’s 30-minute demo with your identifier list and warehouse name. Ask for merge-rule backfill arrangements and connection run times in writing, plus an itemized quote separating launch requirements from later modules.

FAQs

How much does BlueConic cost?

BlueConic does not publish prices or plans, and it offers no free trial. Pricing requires a sales inquiry and a 30-minute demo.

Request an itemized module quote covering the CDP core and your required additions. Twilio Segment Team starts at $120/month, while Tealium Data Cloud Activation costs $1,000/month billed annually. BlueConic does not publish what drives its quote, including any billing unit.
