Panoply.io is published by Lumination AI Limited, London, United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). This page explains what we collect when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it. It’s written for people, not lawyers, but it is the real policy.
The short version
- You can read everything on this site without an account.
- We use analytics to see which pages are read and how the site performs. Analytics data is pseudonymous: we don’t know who you are.
- We never sell personal data, and we don’t hand vendor placements or sponsors any data about individual visitors.
- If you write to us, we keep the email so we can answer it.
What we collect
Server logs
Our host (Kinsta, running on Google Cloud) records the IP address, browser type, requested page, referrer and timestamp of each request. These logs exist to keep the site up and to block abuse. They are kept for a short period and then rotated.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 and PostHog to count visits, see which pages are read, and spot broken pages. Both set cookies or use local storage to tell one visit from the next. IP addresses are truncated or dropped before storage. We do not use this data to build individual profiles, and we do not link it to email addresses or names.
Contact
If you email us or use the contact link on the About page, we keep your message and address for as long as the conversation is open, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case it comes up again. We don’t add you to any mailing list.
Vendor listings
If you claim a tool page on behalf of a company, we keep your name, work email and the company you represent so we can verify the claim and contact you about corrections. That information appears nowhere on the public site.
What we don’t do
- No advertising networks, no retargeting pixels, no cross-site tracking.
- No newsletter signup boxes unless you deliberately subscribe to one.
- No sale or rental of personal data, ever.
Affiliate links and sponsored placements
Some links to tools are affiliate links: if you sign up after clicking, the vendor may pay us a commission. Sponsored placements are labelled on the page. Neither affects what you see in the directory or how tools are described and ordered, and neither involves sharing your data with the vendor. When you click through, you leave this site and the vendor’s own privacy policy applies.
Cookies
The site sets the following:
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics (names starting with
_ga) and PostHog (names starting withph_). Lifetime up to 13 months. - A session cookie if you log in as an editor. Ordinary readers never get one.
You can block cookies in your browser and the site keeps working. Most browsers also let you clear them at any time.
Legal basis (UK GDPR)
We process server logs and analytics under our legitimate interest in running and improving a free reference site. Contact and vendor-claim data is processed because you asked us to do something. We rely on consent only where the law requires it, and we ask for it at that point.
Where the data lives
The site is hosted on Kinsta in the United States. Google Analytics is operated by Google LLC (United States). PostHog data is stored in the European Union. Transfers outside the UK rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the providers’ standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to us through the contact link on the About page and we’ll answer within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 16 and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. If a change is material we’ll say so on the About page for a month.
